Winter is creeping upon very fast. Just walking to the end of the driveway your bones rattle and shake.
Saturday the kids had their first ice skating lesson. It was fantastic. It's so nice to see the kids up and Adam ready to learn. They almost have the whole outfit. Helmets are compulsory. So much for those picture images of white pompom hats and white figure skates. The ice rink is a tennis court converted but because it's situated right next to the sea you get this horrible cold wind which hits you. OK for the skaters but not so good for the mommy's standing on the side line.
The lessons are nice because you get to meet the other parents. So we met another South African guy who was very friendly. Dylan asked Leon out for drink last night and he had to go. Leon was sent out on the mission to meet more people. His outing was a lot better than mine.
I still can't believe we have only been in America for four months. We have settled so well and the kids have done such a great job and slotted in well. I still remember the early days when we first arrived and been utterly terrified. The wonderful thing about moving is no matter what you do or where you are your the family unit stays in tact. The closeness I am feeling for my own family is very special. Look things can change in an instance where I will want to destroy the "special" darlings. For right now the family unit and the things we are experiencing together are fantastic.
We headed out to Maple Row Farm to cut down our Christmas tree. Leon was not so keen but I was determined to go and enjoy. We laughed and joked so much. we discuss the tree, measured, argued, laughed in one go. Did the lay ride thing through the Christmas trees. drank Apple cider and ate doughnuts. Cooked a nice big lunch and off course had some wine. They don't sell mulled wine here.
I had my first ice skating lesson on Wednesday and it was so much fun. The other great thing is all the other ladies there have only been in the country for a few months, so extra bonus. I got to skate backwards, through cones and learnt how to stop. It was such great fun.
We are all doing well and in a good place at the moment.
My fantastic friend Jude has been teaching me how to change the blog, so watch this space.
Merry Christma guys.
