New Years Eve

We took a walk on Sherwood Island and it was fantastic. Took lots of pictures.

Happy New Year to all the wonderful, special people in our lives. Sending lots of love to all. Without you all life would be a bit boring. All those morning skype chats, Hey Hey Friday emails, skype calls to encourage me to keep going, my fantastic sister who makes me laugh, old school friends, hotel school friends, Harpenden swimming pool friends, new friends, my wonderful sister in law who is always a phone call away and so the list carries on. Last but not least to my special husband and darling kids, I love you lots.

Bye off to celebrate with my family.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

DIARY OF A MINNESOTA SNOW SHOVELER

December 8: 6:00 PM. It started to snow. The first snow
of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours
by the window watching the huge soft flakes drift down from heaven. It
looked like a Grandma Moses Print. So romantic we felt like newlyweds
again. I love snow! covering every inch of the landscape. What a
fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the Whole World?
Moving here was the best idea I've ever had. Shoveled for the first time
in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the
sidewalks. This afternoon the snow plow came along and covered up the
sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a
perfect life.

December 12: The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such
a disappointment. My neighbor tells me not to worry, we'll
definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be
awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll
never want to see snow again. I don't think that's possible. Bob is such
a nice man. I'm glad he's our neighbor.

December 14: Snow, lovely snow! 8" last night. The
temperature dropped to -20. The cold makes everything sparkle so.
The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway
and sidewalks. This is the life! The snowplow came back this
afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize I would have to
do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this
way. I wish I wouldn't huff and puff so.

December 15: 20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a
4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and 2 extra shovels.
Stocked the freezer. The wife wants a wood stove in case the
electricity goes out. I think that's silly. We aren't in Alaska, after all.

December 16: Ice storm this morning. Fell on my ass on
the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife
laughed for an hour, which I think was very cruel.

December 17: Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy
to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile
the blankets on to stay warm. Nothing to do but stare at the wife and
try not to irritate her.
Guess I should've bought a wood stove, but won't admit it
to her. God! I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing
to death in my own living room.

December 20: Electricity's back on, but had another 14" of
the damn stuff last night. More shoveling. Took all day. Goddam
snowplow came by twice. Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but
they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they're lying.
Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow
blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think
they're lying. Bob says I have to shovel or the city will have it done and
bill me. I think he's lying.

December 22: Bob was right about a white Christmas because
13 more inches of the white shit fell today, and it's so cold it
probably won't melt till August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed up
to go out to shovel and then I had to piss. By the time I got
undressed, pissed and dressed again I was too tired to shovel. Tried to hire Bob
who has a plow on his truck for the rest of the winter; but he says
he's too busy. I think the asshole is lying.

December 23: Only 2" of snow today. And it warmed up to 0.
The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning.
What is she...nuts??? Why didn't she tell me to do that a month
ago? She says she did but I think she's lying.

December 24: 6". Snow packed so hard by snowplow,
l broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch
the son of a bitch who drives that snowplow, I'll drag him through the
snow by his balls. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to
finish shoveling and then he comes down the street at 100 miles an hour
and throws snow all over where I've just been! Tonight the wife wanted me
to sing Christmas carols with her and open our presents, but I was
busy watching for the goddam snowplow.

December 25: Merry Christmas. 20 more inches of the
goddamed slop tonight. Snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood
boil. God I hate the snow! Then the snowplow driver came by asking
for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel. The wife says
I have a bad attitude. I think she's an idiot. If I have to watch
"It's a Wonderful Life" one more time, I'm going to kill her.

December 26: Still snowed in. Why the hell did I ever
move here? It was all HER idea. She's really getting on my nerves.

December 27: Temperature dropped to -30 and the pipes
froze.

December 28: Warmed up to above -50. Still snowed in.
THE BITCH is driving me crazy!!!

December 29: 10 more inches. Bob says I have to shovel
the roof or it could cave in. That's the silliest thing I ever heard.
How dumb does he think I am?

December 30: Roof caved in. The snow plow driver is suing
me for a million dollars for the bump on his head. The wife went
home to her mother. 9" predicted.

December 31: Set fire to what's left of the house. No
more shoveling.

January 8: I feel so good. I just love those little white
pills they keep giving me. Why am I tied to the bed?

Skiing

Tuesday we hit New York. A great day but a bit of a rush with our planning. It was a last minute lets go. Every time we go into New York Victoria seems to have shoes that hurt or give her blisters. So we learn from our mistakes and I gave the kids the lecture to put on smart shoes. Takkies are good. What a mistake. What was mommy thinking????? The first pavement we crossed Victoria had wet feet. The moaning started. She was a right pain. The Rockerfeller plaza was fantastic but I think if you visit at night and see the lights, it would look magical. Saw the huge big Christmas tree. The views from the top of the rock were amazing. Central park was white with snow. We had sun and blue skies again.

Kara went to American Girl Doll shop with all the other kids from New York. Kara was dead chuffed with her present from Granny Lu and GP - she chose to buy accessories for her American girl doll. Victoria wanted a B10 thing and moaned the whole way because we never stumbled along a toy shop for her to buy a present. A real pain again. Jude i think Victoria and benjamin will make a great match togther. Naughty as anything too I bet. Victoria will have her turn on Thursday.

Wednesday was our skiing trip. We headed out to Mohawk Mountain which is about 1 hour 20 mins away. I liked to be organised so got all the kit set out. Sandwiches were made, hot chocolate and Leon's coffee. Got the car warmed up. Put a shovel in the boot, checked our breakdown number just in case. This is all very new to us. Leon did all the booking on line. Ready to GO. We were all happy the car was jumping with excitement. Happy families. 20 minutes away I remember we forgot all the ski jackets. No one to blame. I could not stop laughing. Kara calls Victoria a "nugget", well we all took the name on this round. So our ski trip turned out very expensive. I tried to borrow jackets from the lost property but no go. We all had to get new jackets. Victoria needed a new one but still a sore move. Victoria now so chuffed with her jacket wants to wear it to bed. A real "nugget".

Kids booked into lessons for 2 hours and Leon and I 1 and half hours. It was brilliant such fun. Can't believe I never did it sooner. Fell once but no problems. The poor teacher about half my size had to lift me up. Not an easy task getting up with ski's on. So I have already spoken to melissa and Martin to try convince them an American Trip would be a good idea. Thing is they will have to come back again in summer for the beach too. Sorry Melissa I had to put that in.

Really a good day out. what I like is you can all do it as a family. No sitting on the side. The kids were fantastic and their balance unbelievable. Kara needs better socks as her feet were very cold.

So we going again.

Happy but very tired now. Yes Victoria still has her jacket on.

Christmas

I had a fantastic birthday. Leon has always been good to me over the years, so I have a real birthday and a proper Christmas. This year I wanted a scooter for my birthday. Perry has one and I took it for a test ride and it was great fun. Now that the kids are older, it's the perfect opportunity to get the same toys and play. Hopefully no more pushing the kids in swings. That is so boring and a thing of the past. Not really.

We took the scooters down to beach for a test run. Like my friend Marshal said after he played ice hockey after a long time of retirement (not sure if he would like me saying retirement) the kids now days are stronger and faster. I really had to move the legs to get a head start on Victoria. I have to use both legs else the bum cheeks will be uneven. As if they were ever even. To hear the squeal of the kids  while we play and race together is a small thing but brings real happiness to the ears. I had to share my new toy with Leon which is red of course so it can go fast. i recon we might be a family of four with scooters and disrupt the whole of central park and New York for that matter.

My American friend Tracy invited us around for a few drinks before we had to face our families. She is crazy but so much fun. Met some great people. Still amazes me the people we meet. The one lady Gill is an agent for actors. What are the chances of meeting someone like that. She travels a lot to LA but won't live there as it's not a great place to bring up kids. A really down to earth lady. Another neighbour was there with his crazy French poodle. So we had a huge big dog running around the house.

Kara got her knickers into such a knot and was so scared to sleep because Father Christmas was coming into our house. I started getting a bit cross and made all the promises no one was coming into our house. Leon said should we do "a there is no Father Christmas". Shame poor child . So I stomped out and slept in her bed and Leon was left with Kara who fell asleep instantly once in our bed. I was able to lie on my back and tonk up the snoring big time. The little "darlings" were up with the stockings at 5.15am. Victoria ripped all the presents open within 10 mins. Kara took her time and saved some, which made Victoria turn green with envy. No Christmas is a true one without reading instructions and throwing out a few swear words. Victoria got a Lego remote car. Leon was in charge of that one. I dressed dolls and drank champagne.

The usual questions came up as to whether it's right been so far away from family. i miss the interaction between the cousins the most. I had a long chats to Kate my sister which was really special. It was good to chat to the boys too. would love to hold Megan, Kate's new little girl. We chatted to Andre and Megan( Leon's brother) in Australia and we are so hoping they get bitten by the travel bug and come visit us. Kate (sister) and I have decided we are going to meet in Disney land, then fly to Vegas where she will get married then I will look after all the kids while they go on honeymoon. Jaco was laughing so much. The thing is you have to start big and dream just a little. Life would be quite boring if there were not dreams involved. Leon and I are in America so we go big and pass the vibe onto others.

I am so ready to get moving and go and explore this huge big America. Had big plans now that Christmas is over to rock and roll. This weather man sometimes is not always so accurate. He said it would start snowing at 9.00am on Boxing day. No snow. He lied. No he did not and we are still having a huge big snow storm. It keeps falling. We should have about 2 foot by tomorrow. The wind blowing the snow is unbelievable. We saw 40 snow ploughs from 11.00am to 3.00pm this afternoon. Big engines growling, moving snow. These guys mean business. I recon we will be paying to have our driveway cleared at this rate. Not sure if the fancy boots will be tempting on this round.

My Irish friend Perry and her husband Simon were in the sea on Christmas day. Prue madness. i was there to take photos. They did it for the Irish charity GOAL. Still need to look it up.

Merry Christmas to all.

We are well and happy.

Lots of love
